Caroline Wozniacki was once again victorious in capturing her second Sony Ericsson Open title in Copenhagen, Denmark after defeating fourth-seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic, 6-1, 6-4 in the final. Wozniacki did not drop a single set all week and with this win she claims her fifth WTA title for the year.

Safarova, who is ranked 38th in the world, lost her first set in all her matches played after starting off with a error-filled first set. She started to improve her game, but it was too late to overcome one of the world’s top players, and a repeat of previous comebacks was not possible. Safarova had won only one break point to even the board in the second set, but there was no stopping Wozniacki in a quick one hour, seven min. final in front of her home crowd.

“It’s a special feeling on my home court, but it wouldn’t have been quite so special without the support,” said Wozniacki.

With the win, Wozniacki has won a total of 17 WTA titles. She still has not yet won a major title and she will aim for one at next weeks’ Grand Slam tournament Wimbledon which begins Monday, June 20 in England.
