Following up on a recent successful participation at the Bellmore Family Festival, the USTA/Eastern-Long Island Region is gearing up for the Merrick Street Fair on Saturday, Oct. 22. The Region will be setting up two 10-and-under QuickStart courts at the fair and is looking forward to meeting many new tennis players, both kids and adults.

“Last month in Bellmore, we signed up more than 100 new junior tennis players,” said Daniel Burgess, president of the USTA/Eastern-Long Island Region. “We taught them some tennis basics at our QuickStart court and helped them and their parents to identify local clubs where they could begin taking lessons in earnest.”

At the Merrick Street Fair, the Region will be setting up two QuickStart courts on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. Visitors to the fair will be invited to take a quick tennis lesson, meet local tennis pros, sign up for a free one-year junior USTA membership and get a free gift. Adults are welcome to try their hands at tennis as well. Anyone who signs up for a new USTA membership will get a special prize, and existing USTA members who bring their membership cards will also get a prize.

The Region is looking for local pros to volunteer their time to help introduce children to the sport of a lifetime and support both the LI Region and their own clubs. Anyone with an interest in helping at the fair can contact Melanie at mrsrubinsclass@aol.com.
