USTA Reaches Out to Military Servicemembers, Veterans and Families

The USTA is a proud partner in the First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden’s Joining Forces initiative. In 2012, the USTA will continue its pledge of support for military service members, veterans and families.

In 2012, the USTA will distribute 2,500 free USTA 10 & Under memberships to military children to help provide recreational and therapeutic opportunities for military families across the country.

The USTA will also provide recreational tennis equipment to 150 adopted units impacting approximately 15,000 deployed service members and their families. The USTA will identify and support 100 communities to send care packages to deployed units.

Also in 2012, the USTA will continue its existing six wounded warrior tennis therapy programs across the country and add programs at 6 additional locations. The USTA will target the following installations: Fort Carson, Colo.; Walter Reed; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Benning, Ga.; Fort Campbell, Ky.; Camp Pendleton, Calif.; Camp LeJeune, N.C.; and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

The USTA has also pledged to hold military appreciation events at approximately five to seven of the Emirates Airline U.S. Open Series tournaments and during the 2012 U.S. Open.
