Members of the British Olympic tennis team, including Andy Murray, have been told to skip Friday's opening ceremony. Like many other athletes who skip the ceremony, a team official told them to rest up before the tournament begins Saturday morning. Paul Hutchins, the British tennis team leader, gave the order to skip the ceremony. The ceremony is taking place on the opposite side of London and is expected to run past midnight.
On Saturday, Murray and his brother Jamie are set to play doubles, and several of their teammates are scheduled for action as well. There are more than 500 British athletes competing and about half are expected to be absent from the ceremony.
In addition to the Murray Brothers, rounding out Great Britain's 2012 Olympic roster are Colin Fleming, Heather Watson, Laura Robson, Ross Hutchins, Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong.
