Twenty-three juniors from the John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA) have made their way across country to compete in the August 2013 USTA Nationals. The country’s best juniors are competing in the following cities: Kalamazoo, Mich. (Boys 16-18); San Diego, Calif. (Girls 16-18); San Antonio, Texas (Boys 14); Peachtree City, Ga. (Girls 14); Little Rock, Ark. (Boys 12); and Alpharetta, Ga. (Girls 12).

One of JMTA’s juniors, Jamie Loeb, has already advanced to the fourth round in the Girls 18s singles event in San Diego, Calif. Loeb, seeded ninth, will be competing in the U.S. Open Juniors beginning in September before heading off to the University of North Carolina to play for the Tar Heels Women’s Team. When asked about her thoughts on heading off to college and stepping away from the junior circuit, Jamie said, “I am excited for the next chapter of my life. There is no question that it will be weird not traveling each week all over the country, but I am excited to be a Tar Heel and play tennis in a team format for the first time.” Loeb’s fourth round opponent is Hayley Carter. Although opponents today, the two will soon be teammates as Carter will also be heading to North Carolina to play for the Tar Heels Women’s Team.

Another JMTA junior, Noah Rubin, easily defeated Marshall Sharp 6-1, 6-0 in Kalamazoo, Mich. in the third round of the Boys 18s event. Rubin, the second seed in the singles draw and top seed in the doubles draw with teammate Martin Redlicki, still has a year to go before even thinking about college. Still, like Loeb, he is preparing for the 2013 U.S. Open Juniors where last year he fell in the first round. When asked how he feels going into this year’s U.S. Open, Noah said, “I’m excited and ready to go. I love playing at Flushing Meadows and feel hard courts are one of my better surfaces. I’m playing some of the best tennis I have ever played, and hope I can keep up that level of play throughout the U.S. Open.”

Rubin’s next opponent will be Max Lipman in the fourth round.

Other JMTA Students who are currently competing nationwide include:

►Girls 12s: Georgia Ryan & Michelle Sorokko

►Girls 14s: Sasha Bekirova, Lauren Haukova & Christina Sisti

►Girls 16s: Brianna Williams & Sabrina Xiong
