The top-seeded American duo of Bob & Mike Bryan were upset Wednesday at the Apia International Sydney, falling to the unseeded duo of Lukas Rosol & Joao Sousa 3-6 6-3 [14-12] in the quarterfinals. It marked the Bryans' earliest exit in Sydney since 2007.

Winners of the last two doubles titles in Sydney, the Bryans have won three Apia International Sydney titles in all with the other coming in 2009, and were bidding to become the first team to claim three consecutive crowns since the Australian duo of Peter McNamara & Paul McNamee did so from 1979-1981.

Rosol & Sousa will next  face the team of India’s Rohan Bopanna & Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi.

The Bryans weren’t the only seeds to be upset on Wednesday, as the second-seeded team of Leander Paes & Radek Stepanek were beaten 6-4, 6-4 by the French duo of Julien Benneteau & Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the first round.
