The USTA hosted a playoff this week to award a men’s and a women’s singles main-draw wild card to the 2010 French Open. The men’s and women’s wild-card tournaments took place on the clay courts of the Boca West Country Club in Boca Raton, Fla., April 27-29. The USTA and the French Tennis Federation have a reciprocal agreement in which wild-card entries into the main draw at the 2010 French Open and 2010 US Open are exchanged.

In Thursday's championship matches ...

In the women's final, Christina McHale defeated Beatrice Capra in the women's final 3-6 6-3 6-2 and is on her way to the French Open main draw next month at Roland Garros.

On the men's side, Ryan Sweeting defeated Ryan Harrson to punch his ticket to the main draw of the 2010 French Open. Sweeting took the first two sets before dropping the third, but then bounced back to win in four 6-4, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

French Open Wild Card

The USTA has outdone itself once again. You know the old bromide "Suppose they gave a tournament and nobody came"? Well, now they held a tournament which was closed to the public, so nobody could come. And an important tourney at that, considering what was at stake for the winner. And this was after an article appeared in the local paper stating the time and directions, and the note that it was free to the public. They have lost all credibility with me and those I've spoken to.
