Center Moriches Tops Riverhead as Boys HS Season Gets Underway

The 2014 Suffolk County Boys High School Tennis season is underway, and on Tuesday, it was the Center Moriches Red Devils varsity boys tennis team who won its season opener by defeating Riverhead Blue Waves 5-2. The Red Devils prevailed over the Blue Waves in cold and windy conditions as the spring weather continues to elude the area and the threat of another winter storm loomed large.

Center Moriches and Riverhead split the singles matches, but it was Moriches who took control by sweeping the three doubles matches. The Red Devils play their next match today at 4:00  p.m. against Longwood High School, while Riverhead meets Southold/Greenpoint today at 4:00 p.m. as well at the Peconic Town Courts.

►First Doubles: Christopher Allsion/Christopher Ferguson vs. Nick Tunkaz/Edgar Garcia: 6-4, 6-4

►Second Doubles: Dan Strebel/Jack Hattan vs. Jordy Perez/Alex Olivos: 6-0, 6-0

►Third Doubles: Matthew Almont/Frankie Montwill : Win by default 

►Exhibition Match: Matthew Almont/Frankie Montwill vs. Jordy Perez/Alex Olivios: 6-1,6-2 

►Exhibition Match: Christopher Allen vs. Tim Saletal: 2-6

And in other results Tuesday, it was the home team Harborfields High School Tornadoes defeating the Elwood-John H. Glenn High School Knights 6-1.
