Boys High School Recap: Syosset and Mepham Close Out Undefeated Regular Seasons

The final week of the boy’s tennis regular season in Nassau County is coming to a close, as teams prepare for the final matches of their season over the next couple of days. The Syosset Braves and the Mepham Pirates took to the court on Tuesday afternoon looking to extend their respective winning streaks, while maintain undefeated records, as others were battling for playoff position with the County Championships approaching this weekend.

Syosset stormed past Friends Academy 7-0 to improve to 12-0 overall and 11-0 in Conference I-B. Henry Tell led the way for the Braves at first singles, beating Friends’ Bhavin Vaid 7-5, 6-2, while Dylant Granat knocked off David Binler at second singles 6-3, 6-1. Syosset looks to reach the 13-0 mark and finish the perfect season as it travels to Manhasset on Wednesday afternoon. Also in Conference I-A, Jericho beat Locust Valley 6-1 to move its record to 4-7.

The Mepham Pirates also took care of business in its pursuit of a perfect season, disposing of East Meadow 7-0 in a Conference III match as it moved to 10-0. Mepham will conclude its regular season at Hicksville on Wednesday afternoon.

Port Washington hosted Wheatley in a Conference I-A showdown, and swept all seven matches for a 7-0 victory. Yuki Yoshinaga & Alex Hadley secured the victory as they took care of Graeme Gelbart & Ethan Bloomberg at second doubles to move Port Washington to 10-1 on the year.

In the lone Conference II match of the day, Wantagh traveled to South Side to take on the Cyclones. South Side Sophomore Ryan Chelius notched his first career win at third singles 6-0, 4-6, 11-9 to clinch the match for the Cyclones, improving to 10-2 on the season.
