The 2014 Nassau County Individual Championships began this past Sunday at Oceanside High School, as the top tennis players from all across the county came together to compete in the tournament. It was originally slated to begin Saturday, May 10, but rain pushed the event back a day, with the finals now to be played this coming Saturday.

In the doubles draw, two of the four top seeds entering the tournament have advanced to the semifinal rounds. The top seed, Cold Spring Harbor’s duo of Jonathan Paris & Connor Mullins eased on into the semifinals with a victory over Ian Friedman & Andy Muran of Friends Academy, 6-1, 6-2. The pair will now meet Rob Gavigan & Tim Nacca of Garden City, who upset the fourth-seeded Chiraq Doshi & Ben Grossman of Port Washington in the quarterfinals.

In the other semifinal match this coming Saturday (May 17), Andrew Bentz & Nasser Ghaffar of Massapequa will face off with Syosset’s Henry Tell and Dylan Granat. The team of Bentz & Ghaffar pushed their way into the final four after knocking off the third-seeded Michael Liebman & Jack Lindeman of Roslyn 6-0, 6-2. Tell & Granat pushed their way into the semifinals by beating Nick Stamatos & AJ Arena of Cold Spring Harbor.

The singles draw saw a number of closely-played and intense matches as the field narrowed to the final four.
