Seventh ranked Canadian Eugenie Bouchard has withdrawn from next week’s Citi Open, tournament organizers announced Thursday.

Jeff Newman, the tournament director, released a statement yesterday that said WTA officials had notified them that Bouchard requested a medical withdrawal. Lucie Safarova, who reached the semifinals at Wimbledon, will replace Bouchard as the tournament’s top seed.

The 20-year old became the first Canadian to play in a Grand Slam singles final when she reached the title match at Wimbledon. She fell short against Czech Petra Kvitova, but the run to the finals established Bouchard as a star on the tour and catapulted her to seventh in the world rankings.

The womens side will be headlined by Safarova and American Sloane Stephens, who recently parted ways with Coach Paul Annacone. On the men’s side, three members of the top 10 rankings, Tomas Berdych, Milos Raonic and Grigor Dimitrov, headline the draw.

The Citi Open from Washington, D.C. will begin with qualifying on July 26th, and is the second part of the Emirates Airline U.S Open series which leads into the final Grand Slam of the season, the U.S. Open.
