Four-time New Haven champion Caroline Wozniacki pushed her way into the tournament’s second round on Monday, rallying from a set down to beat Timea Bacsinszky 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round of the Connecticut Open.

After dropping the first three games of the opening set, Wozniacki fought back to even the frame at 4-4. The Swiss Bacsinszky would break serve in the following game, however, and hold serve to capture the opening set.

From there the match belonged to Wozniacki though as she cruised in the second set to force a deciding third set. After Bacsinszky jumped ahead 2-1 in the third set, Wozniacki rattled off five straight games to close out the match and move into the second-round.

“I have to give her credit,” said Wozniacki. “She started off well, playing very aggressively. I felt pretty good out there. It just took me a little while to get started. I’m happy to be through to the next round.”

The Dane now moves to 24-2 all-time in New Haven, and will meet Italian Camila Giorgi in the second-round.

Canadian Eugenie Bouchard had been winless since her run to the Wimbledon title match, but finally got back on the winning track on Monday as she rolled past Serbian Bojana Jovanovski 6-1, 6-1. She only needed 52 minutes to dispose of the unseeded Jovanovski.

While two favorites had no trouble advancing, fifth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova and seventh-seeded Sara Errani were bounced. Cibulkova fell to Germany’s Andrea Petkovic, while Errani was erased by Spain’s Garbine Muguruza.
