Long Island native and former Bellmore JFK standout Scott Lipsky, along with his doubles partner Rajeev Ram, needed only one hour and 15 minutes to upset the third-seeded team of Daniel Nestor & Nenad Zimonjic Sunday at the U.S. Open.

Lipsky & Ram took the first set 6-3, and then went up 5-4 in the second set as Lipsky served out the victory, earning a straight set 6-3, 6-4 win.

The duo said the key to the win was getting off to a good start which allowed them to relax and play their game, allowing them to remain in the driver’s seat throughout. The win was special for Lipsky who grew up in the backyard of Flushing Meadows.

"I have been coming to the U.S. Open since I was five-years-old, so this is very special,” said Lipsky. “I have good memories here. It's great to be in the quarterfinals."

Up next for Lipsky & Ram is the 12th-seeded team of Eric Butorac & Raven Klaasen in the quarterfinals. These four players know each other very well, as they are all good friends who practiced together leading up to this tournament. Lipsky & Butorac are also former doubles partners and Butorac was a groomsman at Lipsky's wedding.

"It should be a fun match,” said Lipsky. “We all know each other’s games very well. It is great that one of us will be advancing to the semifinals."
