Top-ranked player in the world Novak Djokovic has pulled out of Serbia’s Davis Cup playoff tiebreaker with India, according to Serbian Davis Cup captain Bogdan Obradovic.

“I spoke to Djokovic last night and he said he will not come to India,” said Obradovic. “The main reason for this being fatigue.”

While Djokovic has not come out and officially said so himself, Obradovic confirmed this with the Serbian Tennis Association:

“Djokovic will definitely not join us in India and his fatigue is the biggest reason. He’s had a demanding season and needs a respite; while travelling to India across many time zones from New York and playing in hot and humid conditions sin Bangalore would be a massive exertion.”

Djokovic has said in the past he wants to spend more time with his wife Jelena as they await the birth of the couple’s first child. The Wimbledon champion lost in the US Open semifinals to Kei Nishikori on Saturday.

Serbia is set to face off with India in a best-of-five series starting Friday for a place in next year’s World Group.
