World number one Novak Djokovic was a 6-3, 6-4 second-round winner Tuesday over Philipp Kohlschreiber at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris to advance to round three. The defending champ in Paris, it was Djokovic’s return to action after the birth of his son Stefan last week with his wife Jelena.

"It feels great! It's different, obviously," Djokovic said. "I'm trying to take as much positive energy as I can from what's happened in the past few weeks. I'm very proud to be a father, and I'm very proud of my wife for handling the birth in a great way. She's back home recovering now, with our little boy. This was my first match as a father and it can only inspire me to play my best tennis."

Djokovic claimed his 53rd win of the season over Kohlschreiber. He is seeking to repeat as the winner in Paris, having already been crowned champion this year in Indian Wells, Miami, Rome, at Wimbledon and in Beijing.

“Kohlschreiber is a very tricky opponent,” Djokovic said. “I managed to start the match really well and one break was enough in the second. I struggled a little physically, but at the end of the day I was happy to finish the day the way I did.”

Up next for Djokovic is the winner of the match Wednesday between Gael Monfils and John Isner.
