Oceanside Hands North Shore First Loss of the Year

The Oceanside Sailors snapped a two match losing streak on Thursday, beating North Shore 4-3 in a Conference II-A showdown.

In an extremely tight contest, the deciding matches came on the doubles court. At first doubles, Oceanside’s Michael Wohlgemuth & Nathan Cyrulnk edged out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory, while Matt Levitz & Matt DeGroot won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at second doubles to pace Oceanside.

The Sailors host Valley Stream Central in their next contest and North Shore will play a home match against Herricks.

Herricks and Valley Stream both came up on the losing end in their respective matches on Thursday.

Massapequa beat Herricks 5-2 to stay undefeated and move to 4-0 on the year. Tom DaCosta won 6-4, 7-5 over Ryan Paul at second doubles while Vincent Coghill and Zachary Ready beat Zack Zart and Milau Shah 7-5, 6-2 at second doubles.

The Chiefs will host Bellmore JFK next.

Also in Conference II, Mepham notched its first victory of the season with a 5-2 win over Valley Stream Central.

Carle Place snapped a two match losing streak to beat East Meadow 6-1 in a Conference III-A showdown. The Frogs received excellent from their singles players, winning all three in straight sets, and got a victory from Dan Driscoll, playing in his first varsity match, and Milan Samlall at fourth doubles.

Carle Place will travel to Calhoun for its next match while East Meadow will visit Glen Cove.

In Conference III-B, the Plainedge Red Devils squeaked out a 4-3 win over the Bethpage Eagles.

The Red Devils were led by its doubles pairs who picked up three big wins in their matches. Leading the way was the team of Dylan Pagan & Kyle Oleksak, who beat Frank Iacovano & Andrei Aziz 6-2, 7-6(7-2).

Plainedge moves to 3-2 on the year ahead of a home match versus Wantagh. Bethpage will visit West Hempstead in its next match.
