Coming back from a set down, the Croatian and Brazilian tandem of Ivan Dodig & Marcelo Melo won their first Grand Slam title over the weekend, downing Bob & Mike Bryan 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 7-5.

“It was a great atmosphere,” Melo said on-court after the match. “We thought we could do big things when we got together four years ago and our faith paid off.”

“Thank you to all the people who came to watch a great match,” said Dodig. “We will continue to play many more tournaments.”

In the third set, both duos held serve through the first 10 games, until Dodig & Melo secured a break after Melo used his quick hands to return a shot at the net. In the following game, the pair held serve and clinched the title with a forehand winner from Dodig.

“It’s a great moment for both of us to win our first title, to beat the best team in the world and the best in history,” said Dodig. “Our main goal this season was to win a Slam. But I have to be honest. I didn’t think it would happen here, as it’s not our best surface. Suddenly, we have the trophy.”

The win was the first for the pair, and denied the Bryans a 17th career Grand Slam title.

“I’ve got to congratulate these two guys,” Bob Bryan said after the match. “It was a great match today. You were better than us. Two great guys, two good friends, good for the game.”
