American Sam Querrey made his way into the Aegon Nottingham Open quarterfinals on Wednesday, defeating fifth-seed Pablo Cuevas 7-6(7), 7-6(3) to advance. Querrey saved all seven of the break points he faced.

He will now play second-seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon, who downed 14th seed Joao Sousa 6-4, 6-1, for a chance to reach the semifinals at this tournament for a second-straight year.

Simon saved the only two break points he faced and broke Souza six times in eight attempts. He leads the all-time head-to-head against Querrey 4-1, though this quarterfinal matchup will be the first between the two on grass.

Cyprus’ Marcos Baghdatis followed him his upset win over top-seed David Ferrer on Tuesday with a 6-3, 6-3 over German Alexander Zverev. He converted on three of his four break point opportunities to move past the teenager in just over an hour.

Baghdatis will play Italian Simone Bolelli in the quarterfinals. Bolelli came back from a set down to beat eighth-seed Adrian Mannarino 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Unseeded players Alexandr Dolgopolov and Yen-Hsun Lu both took out seeds to set up a quarterfinal match between the two of them. Dolgopolov took out seventh-seed Dominic Thiem 6-3, 6-3, while Lu beat third-seed Feliciano Lopez 6-3, 6-2.

The other quarterfinal will pit fourth-seed Leonardo Mayer against Denis Istomin. Mayer beat Jiri Vesely 7-6(2), 7-6(5) and Istomin beat Sergiy Stakhovsky 7-5, 6-4 on Wednesday.
