Huntington’s Shane Meyers Awarded a Scholarship From the USTA Foundation

USTA Foundation, the national charitable foundation of the USTA, has announced that three New York area students were awarded an $8,000 College Educational Scholarship. The Foundation granted 53 high school students nationwide a variety of college scholarships this spring, totaling $373,000. Among the winners was Shane Meyers of Huntington Station, N.Y. Meyers, a graduate of Huntington High School, is set to attend the University of Delaware this fall.

The honorees were selected from applicants throughout the country on the basis of their commitment to academic success, to their local community and to their participation in tennis. An objective of the USTA Foundation is to encourage America’s youth to pursue their goals and highest dreams by succeeding in school and becoming responsible citizens. 

The USTA Foundation awards the College Educational Scholarship annually to high school seniors who have excelled academically, demonstrated community service and participated in an organized tennis program. The $8,000 scholarship will be awarded over four years to students entering a two or four-year college or university.

The following students are among the scholarship winners from across the nation:

►Shane Meyers, Huntington Station, N.Y.—Graduate of Huntington High School, will attend University of Delaware

►​Kristina Benjamin, Fairport, N.Y.—Graduate of The Harley School, will attend University of Dayton

►Vanessa Lam-Tran, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.—Graduate of Spackenkill High School, will attend SUNY Geneseo

“The USTA Foundation is once again excited to award these hard-working, well-deserving seniors,” said Dan Faber, USTA Foundation executive director. “We are proud to contribute to their academic achievements, and look forward to their continued success.”
