Americans Madison Keys and Madison Brengle both moved into round three of the U.S. Open on Wednesday, as the 19th-seeded Keys defeated the 100th-ranked Tereza Smitkova, 6-1, 6-2 and Brengle got past fellow American Anna Tatishvili, 6-3, 6-2.

The 20-year-old Keys is into the third round of the Open for the first time in her career in her fourth appearance, after strong runs at the French Open where she advanced to round three, the Australian Open where she advanced to the semifinals and was a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon.

"I'm feeling pretty good. I'm, you know, really excited for the next round," said Keys. "Hopefully I can go out and do something similar today."

In round three, Keys awaits the winner of the match between Polish compatriots, the 15th seeded Agnieszka Radwanska and Magda Linette.

Kicking things off on the Grandstand Wednesday, Brengle, the 25-year-old native of Dover, Del., was a winner over fellow countrywoman Anna Tatishvili.

Brengle, in her third main draw appearance at the U.S. Open, also reached the second round in 2014 and fell in her opening round debut in 2007. She had failed to qualify on eight occasions, including six consecutive years from 2008-2013. Despite the streak of bad luck, Brengle finds herself into the third round at Flushing Meadows where she will face Anett Kontaveit of Estonia, an upset winner earlier in the day over the 31st-seeded Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 7-5, 6-4. The 19-year-old Kontaveit is ranked 152nd in the world and is making her U.S. Open debut.
