Hewlett Downs Oceanside in Conference II-B Action

September 21, 2015 | By Long Island Tennis Magazine Staff

The Hewlett Girls Tennis team remained undefeated in the 2015 season on Friday, downing Oceanside 6-1 in Conference II-B play.

The match was clinched at second doubles, as Ashley Yedosin and Danielle Grushkoasoly picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Hewlett’s first-year Head Coach Abby Samlin said, “We have a lot of juniors, so we’re not veterans, but we’re experienced. We still have some things to work on but we are playing well.”

With the match already decided, Julieta Eulau of Oceanside and Kseniya Zonova of Hewlett played in a fantastic match at first singles, playing into a third-set tiebreaker. Zonova, a native of Ukraine who just moved to Hewlett back in the spring, would come out on top in the tie-breaker, but the level of play in the match showed that these are two of the top players in Nassau County.

Hewlett will take on local rival and fellow undefeated squad South Side next.

In Conference 1 action, Syosset improved to 3-1 on the season as Marissa Levine & Gabi Sklar defeated the team of Marina Hilbert & Elizabeth Quick from Friends Academy, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the clinching match at first doubles. The team was led by strong performances from its singles trio and its third and fourth doubles teams. The Lady Cyclones are now 4-0 and take on local rival Hewlett this afternoon.
