Tomas Berdych and David Ferrer both won titles over the weekend, as Berdych hoisted the trophy at the Shenzhen Open, while Ferrer took home the win at the Malaysian Open.

Berdych won the 11th title of his career with a 6-3, 7-6(7) win over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez on Monday. The match was delayed due to rain and the semifinals had to be played on Sunday, and one more rain delay on Monday pushed the match farther back, but the top-seeded Czech fought through all of that to come out victorious.

“The last three days were tough, especially mentally to keep being very focused,” said Berdych. “I was the one who dealt with that the best. I’m proud of myself to make it happen, because these conditions were not easy at all.

It was another challenge to finally get the trophy. It was a very close match today. I’m really happy with the way I started. I was very focused and very sharp from the beginning.”

Ferrer battled past second-seed and fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 7-5, 7-5 in Kuala Lumpur to win the Malaysian Open title on Sunday. The top-seed Ferrer converted on three break points to defeat Lopez in straight sets, and move to 4-0 in tournament finals this year.

“I feel very happy, because I never played so well at this tournament,” said Ferrer. “I played my best match of the week in this final, and my sensations after my elbow injury are now very good.”

Both Berdych and Ferrer will be competing for the China Open title in Beijing this week.
