Jamie Loeb of Bronxville, N.Y., who trains out of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy at Sportime Randall’s Island, qualified for the main draw of the Dow Corning Tennis Classic 100K in Midland, Mich. with a 6-1, 6-3 win over fellow American Nadja Gilchrist in the final round of qualifying on Tuesday.

Loeb raced out to an early lead, breaking in Gilchrist’s first two service games to open up a 5-0 advantage, before eventually closing out the opening set 6-1.

The former NCAA champion from the University of North Carolina would fall behind in the second set, getting broken in her first service game as Gilchrist built a 2-0 lead. But Loeb broke back immediately, and after consolidating it with a hold, found herself back even at 2-2.

Loeb would break again to take a 4-3 lead, and after consolidating it with a hold, broke one last time to close out the straight-set win in just over an hour.

Loeb will now enter the main draw of the tournament.
