Weekend College Recap: Hofstra Women Knock off Colgate

The Hofstra women’s team knocked off Colgate 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Point Set Indoor Tennis in Oceanside to improve to 5-2 on the season.

Hofstra got things started on the doubles courts, winning all three flights routinely to clinch the doubles point.

After Carmen Pestano and Disha Yellayi won their matches at fourth and fifth singles, canadian freshman Michal Kaplan sealed it for the Pride, hanging on for a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 triumph over Colgate’s Jennifer Ho at second singles to clinch the victory.

Hofstra will return to action on Saturday in a home match against Delaware.

The Hofstra men’s tennis team’s hopes of an undefeated season came to an end over the weekend. The Pride were edged by Fordham 4-3 on Saturday afternoon before Colgate tripped them up 5-2 on Sunday.

Up next for Hofstra is a home contest against Delaware.

 

Stony Brook Men Compete in Yale Invitational
The Stony Brook men headed up to Connecticut to compete in the Yale Invitational over the weekend, and the Seawolves walked away with one victory in its three matches.

After dropping its opening match on Saturday 6-1 to Yale, the Seawolves responded with a 5-2 victory over Fairfield.

Stony Brook swept all three doubles matches to open things up against Fairfield, and then the singles play did its part at well, winning four straight singles wins at the third, fourth, fifth and sixth flights to roll to the win.

On Sunday, Stony Brook concluded its weekend with a 5-2 loss to Marist. The Seawolves return to action on March 25 when it visits the University of Maryland at Baltimore County (UMBC).

The Stony Brook women split its two weekend matches, first falling to Cornell 7-0 on Saturday before responding with a 6-1 win over Niagra on Sunday. It will visit UMBC on March 25 for its next contest.
