The Commack Cougars got back to its winning ways on Wednesday afternoon, moving past Huntington 4-3 in a tightly-contested match.

This match was similar to the one played between these two squads earlier in the season, also a 4-3 Commack victory.

The Cougars took the early lead behind its first and third doubles team to secure two wins. But the strength of Huntington’s singles play and the depth of its doubles tandems kept the Blue Devils in it.

But Commack’s Peter Yu nailed down a 6-4, 6-3 win over Cody Bograd at second singles, and Ryan Schoenfeld and Evan Schuster clinched the Commack win with a 6-4, 6-3 win at second doubles.

The victory moves Commack to 10-2 overall and 6-2 inside League 1. It was a big win for Commack with Half Hollow Hills East and Half Hollow Hills West on next week’s schedule, as the three schools jockey for position inside the Suffolk’s top conference.

Hills East continued its torrid 2016 season with a 6-1 triumph over Northport. The Thunderbirds were led by Jai Madisetty, who defeated Dan Aronson 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles to lead the way. Hills East is now 11-0 on the season and sits atop League 1.

The defending county champions Hills West kept pace with a 5-2 win over Harborfields to improve to 12-2 on the season.

Elsewhere in Suffolk County, Whitman beat Kings Park 4-3, Brentwood moved past West Babylon 7-0 and Deer Park defeated Babylon 6-1.
