The Creek Club Defeats North Hills in Long Island Pro Tennis League Action

July 19, 2010 | By Gary Simeone

Locust Valley’s Creek Club beat North Hills 18-11 in Long Island Tennis Pro League (LIPTL) action on Friday, July 16th at The Creek Club. "It was a tight match between two good teams," said Martin Wostenholme, tennis director at The Creek Club.

The first of three matches featured women’s singles player Victoria Konstantinova for The Creek Club pitted against North Hill’s Katka Sevikova. Both players hit steady groundstrokes and big forehands in a back and forth effort that resulted in a winner-take-all nine-point (first to five) tie-breaker. Konstantinova got the best of her opponent early on, hitting deep baseline shots and forcing Sevikova into the corners of the court to take a 4-0 lead. Sevikova was able to battle back to win the next point, but Konstantinova erased all hopes of a comeback with a forehand winner down the sideline for a 5-1 victory.

The next match featured men’s singles players Vasilis Mazarakis for the Creek Club as he took on Milo Hauk of North Hills. North Hills got the early 2-0 lead, until Mazarakis went on a three-game tear to take a 3-2 lead. From there, he never looked back, winning the next game en route to a 6-4 victory.

Teaming up for the mixed-doubles match, Mazarakis & Konstantinova for The Creek Club maintained a good working chemistry to dispatch their opponents, Hauk & Sevikova, in an easy 6-2 victory.

"All and all it was a good day for us," said Konstantinova. "Hopefully, we can win the (Club) trophy again this year."
