Fourth-seeded Garbiñe Muguruza advanced Wednesday at Roland Garros, defeating wild card Myrtille Georges in dominant fashion, 6-2, 6-0.

"It was not an easy match, especially playing a French player at home," Muguruza said. "I did not know her at all, and throughout the match I had to really build my strategy to beat her. It wasn't easy, and at the same time I think she was a little nervous. I guess I was nervous a little, too, but it helped me."

Muguruza, a two-time French Open quarterfinalist, moves on to face Yanina Wickmayer, a winner Wednesday over Ekaterina Makarova.

Also Wednesday, Simona Halep moved into the third round at Roland Garros, defeating Zarina Diyas in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-2.

"I expected a tough match. I played two times against her and I know that the score was easier, but still I felt she was very dangerous," Halep said. "She has a flat game and today she played really well. First set she was hitting all the balls and very flat, so the ball didn't bounce too much. I stayed a little bit too far from court. But in the end I found the rhythm. I found the way to play aggressive, to dominate the game, and I finished it in two sets."

Halep will next face Naomi Osaka, a 6-3, 6-3 winner Wednesday over Mirjana Lucic-Baroni. Currently ranked sixth in the world, Halep has never faced Osaka.

Also moving into the Round of 32 Wednesday was Petra Kvitova, a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Hsieh Su-Wei, and Svetlana Kuznetsova, a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Heather Watson.

World number two Agnieszka Radwanska moved into the Round of 32 as well after her 6-2, 6-4 straight sets win over Caroline Garcia. Radwanska moves on to face world number 30 Barbora Strycova who edged Polona Hercog 6-4, 6-4. Radwanska is 4-0 lifetime against Strycova.

"I think I'm not really thinking about expectations or second week," Radwanska said. "I think taking match by match, and I'm just very happy to be in the third round. Of course now it's not going to be easier. She's playing great tennis, especially on clay. For sure … another tough match. I'm healthy, in one piece, and I'm just ready for the next one."
