Top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska defeated the number 10 seed Elina Svitolina to win her first Connecticut Open title in New Haven, Conn., 6-1, 7-6(2).

"First of all, I'd like to congratulate Elina for such a great week," Radwanska said. "You have a great team, especially with Justine [Henin] on your side. I remember one time only getting three games from her, so thank God she's not playing anymore!"

A wild card entrant in the event, Radwanska captured the 19th WTA title of her career, and her second of 2016, after winning Shenzhen Open in China  back in January.

Following a first-round bye, Radwanska opened play against Jelena Ostapenko, who eliminated three-time Connecticut Open Champion Caroline Wozniacki in the first round. Ostapenko kept the match close in the first set, but Radwanska took the match 7-5, 6-1.

In the quarterfinals, she met veteran Kirsten Flipkens and rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 win and a trip to the semis against two-time defending Connecticut Open champion Petra Kvitova. Radwanska was dominant in the semis, taking out the two-time champ 6-1, 6-1.

Radwanska heads to Flushing Meadows where she will begin her quest for the 2016 U.S. Open title as the number four seed in the Women’s Singles Draw, opening Tuesday against American Jessica Pegula at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
