Piping Rock got off to a good start against the visiting Creek Club in Long Island Professional Tennis League (LIPTL) play on Friday night, July 30th. Natasha Marks of Piping Rock defeated Creek Club’s Victoria Konstantinova in women’s singles with her steady baseline rally and consistent net play. With the score tied 1-1, Marks kicked her game into high gear, taking three games in a row. She never looked back in taking the set, 6-2.

In men’s singles, Creek Club’s Vasilis Mazarakis started off smoothly against Piping Rock’s David McNamara. He broke McNamara in the sets third game to take a 2-1 lead and stayed on top throughout the set. McNamara was unable to even the score, as Mazarakis held serve throughout and proved to be the more consistent player. Leading 5-3, Mazarakis was able to get the better of McNamara and rally to win the final game and set, 6-3.

Doubles would prove to be the deciding factor for each team. McNamara served well in the first game to give Piping Rock the 1-0 early lead. The team of Mazarakis & Konstantinova looked a little out of sorts, with both players making multiple unforced errors. Quickly, the score was 4-1 in Piping’s favor. Creek was able to mount a small comeback, but it was not enough as Piping Rock won the set 6-3 and took the match by a score of 15-11.
