Commack, Ward Melville Begin Suffolk Tournament Runs

Commack's Kimberly Liao and Ward Melville's Denise Lai will try to lead their teams to a deep run in the Suffolk County playoffs.

The two-top seeds in the Suffolk County team tournament, Commack and Ward Melville, respectively, will get their playoff tournaments underway on Wednesday afternoon, with spots in the quarterfinals on the line.

The Cougars of Commack, who lost in the championship last year to Hills East, will face off with undefeated 16th seed Mercy, who defeated West Islip 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

Mercy was led by Kelsey Bundrick, who beat Jen Cox 6-2, 6-3 to help Mercy advance.

Ward Melville will square off with 2014 champions Half Hollow Hills West, who edged East Islip 4-3 on Tuesday, thanks to a 6-2, 7-5 win from Talia Nierman and Najah Williams at third doubles.

Last year’s champion, Half Hollow Hills East, will take on Southampton, who got past Longwood 4-3 on Tuesday.
