South Side, Massapequa Notch Weekend Wins

The South Side Cyclones and Massapequa Chiefs won big Conference II-B matchups over the weekend.

South Side defeated Valley Stream Central 5-2 on Friday afternoon to win its second straight match. The Cyclones were led by Andy Cardi and Ryan Trantel, who won 6-4, 6-1 at fourth doubles. The win improves South Side to 6-3 on the season.

Massapequa remained a game up on South Side by edging Lynbrook 4-3. John Probst and Joseph Menichini paired up to notch a straight-sets win at second doubles to anchor the Chiefs’ victory.

In Conference I, Syosset continued its winning ways with a 7-0 win over Friends Academy. Eli Grossman picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Puis Lo at second singles to lead the way for the Braves.

Port Washington split its two weekend matches, first falling to Plainview 4-3 but then coming back on Saturday to win 4-3 over Great Neck North.

Plainview won the final four matches to beat Port Washington. After falling behind 0-3, the Hawks responded with four straight victories, with the clincher coming from Anthony Casale’s 6-4, 6-2 win over Tim Serignese at second singles.

Port Washington responded the next day with a tight win over the Blazers of Great Neck North. Dylan Spilko and Justin Suzzan helped clinch the win with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Josh Rottbaum and Avery Nahavian at second doubles.
