Commack was playing without its top singles player Spencer Brachman and Hills West was able to take advantage, winning three of the four singles flights to anchor the victory.

The first match off was third singles, as Hills West’s Tyler Nierman won 6-4, 6-4 over Alec Sydney of Commack to get the Colts on the board early. Soon after, Commack knotted things up as Tyler D’Amato and Matt Strogach won 6-4, 6-4 over Sameed Aman and Rahul Mathur in the third doubles spot.

Sol Yoon and Gabe Chan won their second doubles match 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 for Commack.

But the singles play was too solid for Hills West on the afternoon. In the last two matches on, Jackson Weisbrot defeated Commack’s Peter Yu 7-6(2), 6-2 at first singles and Cameron Klepper won 6-0, 6-1 over Matt Wu at second singles.

Rounding out Hills West’s victories was Tony Zhong and Keshav Khanna, who won 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(5) over Ryan Schoenfeld and Evan Schuster at second doubles.

Despite the loss, Commack is still confident heading into the home stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs:

“Our guys know that we have perhaps the most depth of any team in the playoffs which is what wins championships. Despite the loss, and not having our complete roster yesterday, the guys feel fret about their championship aspirations,” said Commack head coach Shane Helfner. “We have tons of players that can step into any spot and give us a point. The guys are ready and believe in themselves more than any season I have coached.”
