A day after falling to Port Washington in a battle for first place in Nassau County’s Conference I, the Blazers of Great Neck North got back on the winning track on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Roslyn 5-2 to move to 6-2 on the season.

“Playing Roslyn, I knew we would have some tough battles, especially at third singles and the top two doubles spots. We were able to notch wins in all three of those matches,” said Great Neck North head coach Michael Kazin. “Our first doubles team has gone to three sets in several matches but they are fighters and have won each match. I’m extremely proud of the entire team for working hard and staying aggressive against a very strong Roslyn squad.”

Ashley Yu and Margaret Haykin led the way with a comeback at first doubles, fighting back from a set down to beat Ali Glick and Anna Dicker 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Also improving to 6-2 in Conference I was the Syosset Braves, who won its third straight match with a 5-2 win over North Shore. Syosset and Great Neck North are now tied for second behind Port Washington.

West Hempstead improved to 3-4 on the season with a tight 4-3 victory over Unionedale. Laure Eivazi anchored the West Hempstead victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Denise Wilson at first singles.
