Long Island High School Recap: April 23

Great Neck North defeated Manhasset 5-2 in a Nassau County Conference I showdown this past weekend.

Damien Chafe sealed the Great Neck North victory with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Manhasset’s Richard Kelly. The Blazers would win all four of the doubles flights to round out the scoring.

The Syosset Braves continued its winning streak with a 5-2 victory over Cold Spring Harbor. The first two singles flights would go to Cold Spring Harbor, but Syosset would win third singles and the four doubles flights to take the overall match.  Preet Rajplan clinched the win for Syosset with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Shane Cashin.

Roslyn won four doubles flights in straight sets to defeat Plainview 5-2. Mikey Weitz won the lone singles match for the Bulldogs with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Anthony Casale to help lead Roslyn.

South Side ended the undefeated season of Bellmore JFK with a 4-3 victory. The two teams split the first six flights which left the match to be decided by second doubles. The South Side pairing of Cole Cornell and Dino Dervovic would lose the first set, but after blowing a 5-1 lead in the second set, recovered to level the match with a win in the tiebreaker.

The two carried that momentum into the third set where they would win 6-1 to clinch the Cyclone victory.

South Side, Bellmore and Massapequa are all now tied atop the Conference II-B standings. Massapequa defeated Calhoun 6-1 as Matthew Melillo and Anthony Guerriere won 6-3, 6-3 over Andrew Yam and Alex Wojewoda at third doubles.

Rodolfo Tan defeated Steve Mathurin 6-2, 6-0 at third singles to lead West Hempstead to a 5-2 victory over Uniondale.

Wantagh notched a 6-1 win over Plainedge as Matt Pullman and T.J. Cerasi notched a 6-0, 6-2 win over Paul Brumale and Rocco Cann in the third doubles spot. Raul Fernandez chipped in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nick Sansone at second singles.
