Rafael Nadal advanced to the final eight at the China Open in Beijing on Thursday, defeating Karen Khachanov of Russia 6-3, 6-3.

The world number one is in search of his second career China Open title, with the last one coming back in 2005. He saved all six break points he faced on Thursday to beat Khachanov in less than 90 minutes.

“Happy about the match today,” said Nadal. “I think I played a solid match. Tomorrow will be a tough one against Isner; he’s playing unbelievably well. I saw his match today. He played huge. So let’s see what’s going on tomorrow.”

Nadal’s quarterfinal opponent will be the American John Isner, who hit eight aces on his way to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Leonardo Mayer of Argentina.

Second-seed Alexander Zverev moved past Fabio Fognini 6-4, 6-2 on Thursday to set up a quarterfinal match with Russia’s Andrey Rublev. The U.S. Open quarterfinalist continued his good run to end the season by beating seventh-seed Tomas Berdych 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Third-seed Grigor Dimitrov will face off with fifth-seed Roberto Bautista-Agut, while eighth-seed Nick Kyrgios will take on German qualifier Steve Darcis in the other Beijing quarterfinals.
