Long Islander Wins Doubles Title at the Atlanta Tennis Championships

Americans Scott Lipsky of Merrick, N.Y. & Rajeev Ram of Englewood, Colo. defeated Rohan Bopanna of India & Kristof Vliegen of Belgium to win the Atlanta Tennis Championships Doubles Title. After winning the first set 6-3, Lipsky & Ram dropped the second, losing in a tie-break 7-4. The third set was decided by a 10-point tie-break, which Lipsky & Ram initially led 5-1. However, Bopanna & Vliegen battled back and had the first match point at 9-8. Lipsky returned a backhand down the line to save matchpoint and four points later, he and Ram won the title.

In the semifinals, the team of Lipsky & Ram defeated two very well-known American players, John Isner & James Blake, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5).

The Atlanta Tennis Championships Doubles Title is Lipsky’s third ATP World Tour doubles title and Ram’s fourth in five finals.
