The college tennis season is rapidly approaching and, once again, the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) women’s tennis team is the favorite to win the East Coast Conference.

The Bears, winners of 31 straight regular season matches, received six of the eight first-place votes from the conference’s coaches. Queens College received the other two-first place votes.

In addition, senior Lena Dimmer was selected as the conference’s Preseason Player of the Year.

“It’s an honor for me to awarded Preseason Player of the Year. This gives me even more motivation to start the season right,” Dimmer told NYITBears.com. “It means a lot to me to receive this award two years in a row since I transferred to NYIT. This makes my last year as a student-athlete even more valuable, and it’s definitely a good way to end my career as a student-athlete.”

Dimmer hopes to lead the Bears to a sixth consecutive conference title this season.
