April 29, 2016 | By Long Island Tennis Magazine Staff

Young hopefuls from across Long Island will be out in force at SPORTIME Syosset, the Long Island home of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, on Thursday, June 9, to try out for a full scholarship to attend JMTA at SPORTIME Syosset for the 2016-17 season. The evening begins with registration at 5 p.m., with a variety of tryout evaluation sessions concluding at approximately 8:00 p.m.

The tryout, open to players ages 6-16, will be led by an Assessment Committee made up of SPORTIME/JMTA Directors and Coaches.  The Committee will evaluate players as they participate in tennis drills, athletic assessments, and play matches. The scholarship winner will be notified by July 31.

SPORTIME Syosset, Long Island home of the JMTA, is located at 75 Haskett Drive in Syosset. Parents of interested players can register online at www.SportimeNY.com/JMTAScholarship , can email jmtatryout@sportimeny.com or can call (516) 364-2727 for more information or to register in person.  Updates will also be posted online at www.SportimeNY.com/Syosset-Tennis. The registration deadline is Friday June 3 at 5 p.m. ET.

There is no fee to try out, but entrants must pre-register. Proper tennis attire is required. Players will have access to locker room and shower facilities. SPORTIME Syosset features a full-service, on-site pro shop, as well as stringing services. Water will be available on court.

“We have found many gems in our Syosset tryouts,” said JMTA Director Lawrence Kleger. “We expect to find a similar level of talent and, importantly, drive to succeed in the young players we will meet this year.”
