The spring season for much of Nassau County got underway on Thursday as the majority of teams played in their league openers on a crisp, early spring afternoon.

A couple of Conference II-B teams who are expecting to compete in the playoffs later this year, South Side and Massapequa, got their seasons off on the right foot with victories on Wednesday.

South Side took down Lynbrook 6-1, anchored by a 6-1, 6-2 win by Harry Ludwig and Chris Mullooly at first doubles. Senior Chuck Silecchia also chipped in with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at second singles.

Oceanside beat Valley Stream Central to win its opener in Conference II-B.

The Chiefs of Massapequa edged out Bellmore 4-3. The match would come down to the fourth doubles court in a thrilling three-set match, as Steve Schulte and Michael Grisanti clinched the Massapequa win with a 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(4) win over Jake Gallito and Hugh Cheung. Matthew Musalo beat Andrew Smith 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in a highly competitive second singles contest.

Playing in his first ever match at the Varsity level, James Wright paired with Aidan Tammarow to come back and beat Matt Tepper and Avi Gupta at fourth doubles. The clinching match came at second doubles, as Matt Rivera and Frank Ortiz of Carle Place came back from a set down to beat Eddie Kemp and Nicholas Rivera to seal the victory for the Frogs.
