The Syosset Braves improved to 5-2 on the season, defeating Manhasset 4-2 in a Conference I showdown on Monday afternoon.

“Although we are extremely young, the girls are really starting to come together, especially throughout the doubles lineup,” said Syosset Head Coach Shai Fisher. “We’re very excited about how far we can advance this year.”

One of those doubles teams that Fisher referred to was the third doubles tandem of Alex Flicker & Olivia Tigerman, who notched a 6-3, 6-0 win.

“We played well today, stayed focused and worked well together,” said Flicker. “I thought the key to our win was our consistency, our lobs and being aggressive going at the net player.”

Hannah Abraham clinched the Syosset win with a 7-6(2), 6-3 win at third singles.

Port Washington extended its lead in Conference I with a 4-2 win over Great Neck North in a battle between two of Nassau County’s best teams, who were playing for the second time this season.

Great Neck North won the match earlier this season, but the Vikings would even up the season series on Monday. Mia Froccaro & Kelsey Sy won their match at third doubles and Tiffany McGowan won her match at third singles in straight sets to give Port Washington the early 2-0 lead.

Casey Fanous & Charlotte Forman came back from a set down to win their match at second doubles, and Martine McGowan hung on to win her match at second singles to win her match at second singles to clinch the Port Washington victory.

That makes seven straight wins for Port Washington, as it stretched its lead in Conference I.

“We are gaining a lot of confidence as a team and feel that the sky is the limit for how far we can go. The girls have now put together seven straight victories in an extremely tough conference,” said Port Washington Head Coach Shane Helfner. “I couldn’t be more proud of our tennis program and the depth that our girls show every match!”

South Side won its third straight match, improving to 6-1 on the season in Conference II-B, beating Bellmore JFK 6-1. Kendall Kelly notched a 6-0, 6-3 win at third singles, while the fourth doubles tandem of Emilia Fuentes & Julia Temple won 6-3, 6-2 at fourth doubles to close out the win for the Lady Cyclones.
