As the Mixed-Doubles season winds down, the adult, senior and super senior matches are about to begin. The captain’s scheduling meeting is set for Wednesday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, N.Y. Matches will begin the week of May 21st.

I absolutely LOVE playing tennis! My mom was a club tennis champion in Baltimore in the 1930s, and she actually played tennis on the last day of her life at the age of 83. I learned the game at the age of 10 at a summer camp, and I’ve been playing socially ever since.

The Men's and Women's Tri-Level League finished their season with championship matches Dec. 17-18. In the women's final, Point Set, captained by Jenn Jaeger, defeated Rockville Racquet, captained by Jackie Gaines. In the men's final, Carefree's team, captained by Adam Kohlenberg, defeated Rockville Racquet, captained by Jonathan Klee.

Since its inaugural season in 1979, no team based on the South Shore of Long Island has won the Long Island Men's Tennis League (LIMTL). On Aug. 24, that all changed as Inwood Country Club, captained by Lionel Goldberg and co-captained by Jonathan Klee, defeated Cold Spring Valley 4-1 to take the championship.

As the snow melts and the weather gets warmer, outdoor tennis makes its way back to Long Island. From the schools, to the parks, to the clubs, nothing can make you feel more like a beginner than hitting that first ball outside in a swirling wind after playing indoors all winter. Whereas the USTA Adult Leagues will mainly continue their indoor play, a well-established “niche” of outdoor leagues will begin.
