Coming off an outstanding 2010 campaign in which they advanced to the World TeamTennis Finals, the New York Sportimes have announced their 2011 schedule, with seven home matches in July, including five at Sportime Randall’s Island Tennis Center in Manhattan and two at SEFCU Arena at the University of Albany.

The 2010 World TeamTennis Pro League season will be highlighted by head-to-head matches between five former and current world number one-ranked players–Martina Hingis, Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters, Lindsay Davenport and current world number one Serena Williams–during the three-week season, which starts July 5. League officials have released the 73-match season schedule for the 10 WTT franchises.

Andy Roddick, Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport have been selected as the top three overall picks in the 2010 World TeamTennis Pro League Marquee Player Draft. The Philadelphia Freedoms selected Roddick with the overall number one selection, while the New York Buzz chose Hingis with the second pick and the St. Louis Aces took Lindsay Davenport with the third pick.

World TeamTennis is donating hundreds of clothing items for children impacted by the earthquake in Haiti to K.I.D.S. (Kids in Distressed Situations), a charity that focuses on the needs of children and their families. While the immediate call from relief organizations is for funds to support rescue efforts and emergency medical treatment in Haiti, a number of charities such as K.I.D.S. will also provide a “second wave” of support to displaced children and their families.
