The USTA has announced the 10 award winners to be honored during the USTA Community Tennis Development Workshop (CTDW), which will be held at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, La., Jan. 13-15. The honorees will be recognized in a variety of categories for their dedication to growing the game of tennis at the grassroots level.

This past weekend, the United States Davis Cup team had a wide-open opportunity to upend Spain in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Davis Cup, but was unable to do so. Everything was in favor of the U.S. prior to the competition getting underway.

Daniel B. Dwyer, a managing partner at the Point Set Indoor Racquet Club in Oceanside, N.Y., and a past president of the USTA Eastern section, died suddenly of a heart attack on May 25. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly, son Shawn and three grandchildren.

First singles player, Josh Levine of Cold Spring Harbor thought he would be getting a little more competition from his match against Roslyn at Garden City High School on Thursday. “I was ready to play Austin (Blau) but they told me he had gotten sick and wouldn’t be available. So I ended up playing their alternate instead.” Blau's replacement, Jeff Cohen, tried hard and got Levine into some long baseline rallies, but in the end, Cohen just couldn't overcome Levine's many weapons in losing 0-6,1-6.
