Grand Slam singles champions Li Na and Petra Kvitova lead China and Czech Republic, respectively, into the eight-team Hyundai Hopman Cup, taking place Dec. 31-Jan. 7 at the Burswood Dome, Burswood Entertainment Complex in Western Australia. The best of five matchup between the United States and Russia started with Melane Oudin defeating Alla Kudryavtseva 6-3 6-3 to give the United States a 1-0 match lead. Elena Dementieva defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the second match to even the series at 1-1. In Sunday's reverse singles Dementieva defeated Oudin 7-6 0-6 6-3 to put the Russians ahead but Mattek-Sands defeated Kudryavtseva 6-4 2-6 6-3 in a tough match to even things up at 2-2.

Melanie Oudin won her two singles matches to lead the United States to a 4-1 victory over France and secure a spot in the Fed Cup Semifinals. Oudin ousted Julie Coin 7-6 (3), 6-4 in just over two hours Sunday to give the Americans an insurmountable 3-0 lead. The U.S. will next face Russia, April 24-25.
