In the summer of 1981, Mike Silverman of City Parks Foundation, a Levittown, N.Y. resident, was fresh out of college with an undergraduate degree in political science and plans to take a year off to work before going to law school. When Silverman accepted a six-week summer job teaching free beginner tennis lessons to kids for the New York City Parks Department, all of his plans changed.

Current world number two and fresh off capturing his second Wimbledon title, Novak Djokovic will join Hall of Famer John McEnroe, New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, actor Edward Norton and other tennis stars, legends and celebrities, on Thursday, Aug. 21, for a gala evening of tennis to benefit the Johnny Mac Tennis Project (JMTP) at Sportime Stadium on Randall's Island.

A year ago, Rafael Nadal surpassed Bjorn Borg for the most titles at Roland Garros. On Sunday, Nadal became the first man to win the same major tournament eight times after defeating fellow Spaniard David Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.
