The USTA has announced the 14 teams that will compete in the first-ever U.S. Open National Playoffs–Mixed-Doubles Championship, Aug. 24-27, at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale in New Haven, Conn. Representing the USTA Eastern Region will be 30-year-old Bea Bielik from Valley Stream, N.Y. and her teammate, 27-year-old Darrin Cohen from Smithtown, N.Y.

Court 11 was good to players with New York connections on day three of the 2010 U.S. Open Qualifying Tournament on Thursday. Former Georgia Tech All-American Irina Falconi, who grew up playing on the public courts at Inwood Park near Washington Heights in the Bronx, beat Germany’s Mona Barthel, 6-0, 6-2, in the first round of the U.S. Open Qualifying Tournament at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Despite two rain delays, most of the matches were completed on Day 1 of the 2010 U.S. Open Qualifying tournament at the USTA BIllie Jean King National Tennis Center. Among the notables who advanced were American Robert Kendrick, who defeated Madwe Middlekoop, 6-4,6-0 , as well as fellow Americans Bobby Reynolds and Ryan Harrison on the men's side.
