As the 2011 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Tournament kicked off, Long Island representatives gave a strong showing on day one. Between six singles and six doubles matches, Nassau and Suffolk County combined together had eight wins.

Sophomore Brandon Stone of Whitman surprised the local tennis community with a remarkable run to earn the Suffolk County Boys High School Individual Championship. Stone capped his championship run with a hard fought three set victory over top seeded Jeremy Dubin of Southampton, 5-7, 7-6(5), 7-5.
