Two local Long Islanders won the U.S. Open National Playoffs/Mixed-Doubles Sectional Qualifying Tournament, played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The team of Darrin Cohen & Bea Bielik were rarely tested throughout the tournament and did not drop a set in five wins.

Mike Greenberg of ESPN's "Mike & Mike in the Morning" show had his wish come true at Monday's U.S. Open National Playoffs/Mixed-Doubles Sectional Qualifying at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. "I got to play with tennis legend, Chris Evert," said Greenberg. "I requested her because I knew she was a great tennis player and to be honest she was the first woman I ever loved."

Six-time U.S. Open champion Chris Evert and ESPN's Mike Greenberg came up short in their bid for a wild card into the 2011 U.S. Open on Mondaty, losing their mixed-doubles second round match at the U.S. Open National Playoffs USTA Eastern Sectional Qualifying Tournament at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

It’s not every tournament that sees a local pro like Darrin Cohen upset a Wimbledon doubles champ like top-seeded Jared Palmer. But that result was just one of the many highlights of the “One-on-One Rocking Doubles” event, held Jan. 22 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center as group of local players duked it out while a blues band wailed in the lounge.

North Hills brought their "A" game to Pine Hollow Country Club on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 1st for a showdown with Pine Hollow in the Long Island Professional Tennis League (LIPTL). North Hills remained on top of their game throughout the match, defeating Pine Hollow by a score of 18-9.
