The USTA has announced that it will celebrate the refurbishment and creation of 10,000 youth-sized tennis courts in the United States as part of USTA’s commitment to First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative. A special celebratory event, Court 10K, will be held on March 19 at the Tamiami Tennis Center in Miami to commemorate the milestone.

The USTA has announced that the Delray Beach Tennis Center in Delray Beach, Fla. has been selected as the site for the 2013 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group Playoff between the U.S. and Sweden, April 20-21. The event is being organized, staged and promoted by the USTA. Local sponsors include the City of Delray Beach, Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.

The United States will face Italy in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group First Round action, beginning this Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3:00 p.m. local time on an indoor clay court at the 105 Stadium in Rimini, Italy. Opening the tie will be world number 64 Jamie Hampton, who will be making her live Fed Cup singles debut.

Lucie Safarova defeated Jelena Jankovic 6-1, 6-1 to clinch a second consecutive Fed Cup by BNP Paribas title for the Czech Republic over Serbia on Sunday. The USTA has announced that the U.S. Junior Fed Cup and U.S. Junior Davis Cup (16-and-under) teams and both the boys’ and girls’ World Junior Tennis teams (14-and-under) won the North/Central America & Caribbean Regional Championships this weekend to qualify for the 2012 World Finals. The Regional Championships were held in Merida, Mexico. All four teams went an undefeated 3-0 en route to winning their regional titles.
