The Suffolk County Individual Championships were held Tuesday at Smithtown East High School, and the day belonged to Half Hollow Hills East, as a record seven of their players qualified for the State Championships. Leading the way for Hills East were Singles Champion Zain Ali and Doubles Champions Kyle Alper & Jeff Cherkin.

The 2013 Nassau County Boys Individual Championships were scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 11, but Mother Nature changed those plans as rain caused the postponement of Day One of the tournament. On Sunday morning as Coordinator Barry Kubit squeegeed the courts of Oceanside High School and the sun finally shone through as play was able to get underway.

Yesterday afternoon, the Boys Suffolk League I Individual Championships top seeded Zain Ali of Half Hollow Hills East was crowned the Suffolk Champion as he defeated second-seeded Brandon Stone of Walt Whitman in the finals in three tough sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.

The St. Anthony's Friars captured their second Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) Boys Tennis Title in three years Monday at Hofstra with a 6-1 win over the Chaminade Flyers. With the win, the Friars won their seventh CHSAA Boys Tennis Championship.

The Long Island High School Boys Tennis Season for 2013 is rapidly coming to an end. In Nassau County, Cold Spring Harbor remains undefeated, while in Suffolk, Half Hollow Hills East remains undefeated as well.

For the third straight season Cold Spring Harbor (Nassau Champion) took on Half Hollow Hills (Suffolk Champion) for the Boys Tennis High School Championship, and for the third straight year, CSH prevailed. This time, it was a 5-2 match victory for CSH which gave the Seahawks their fifth straight Long Island Championship.

Long Island will be very well represented today as the second round of the 2012 NYSPHSAA Boys Tennis Championships gets underway at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. Of the eight singles matches to played this morning, five featured Long Island players, three from Nassau and two from Suffolk.

Last year as a junior, Josh Levine of Cold Spring Harbor won both the Nassau County and New York State Singles Titles en route to an undefeated season. At this past weekend's 2012 Nassau County Individual Championships, Levine, the top seed, defended the first of those titles in his senior season, with a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win over his friend, Andrew Yaraghi of Friends Academy.
